I have a question for the dear reader: What does this cluster of stars have to do with the celebration of Halloween? The image of these stars has been reproduced several times. Another question why was this photographic image made? Still another question why this orientation? When an image is reproduced many times we fall under a spell. We delude ourselves into thinking this is the only orientation possible to display. That is suitable for viewing. Between the months of October and November a cluster of three Holy days were ascribed to the festival of the ancestors. These three days were given the names: All Halloween, All Saints, and All Souls. On these days a celebration involving a fest was required. The insinuation of foods seems to imply that these festivals are tightly linked to the worship of the event of the Harvest. Indeed the Moon appears to the discernment of the mind to be rather extraordinary in her fine gold raiment and facial appearance. Despite our wonder and amazement with astronomy many are ignorant of how stellar phenomena are used to determine when a holiday, festival, and feast is chosen for celebration. When an individual decides to seek this answer a whole new world will open up. To reveal what lays behind the pageantry will unlock yourself. This is a rather inspiring proposition. All that is required is to leave your desire. To seek treasure one must not imagine what is inside the chest for desire can steal away from you the sacred meanings. Let us begin, if you are ready to climb. I have a question what is the deeper meaning of a figure of a lady wearing a hat that resembles an isosceles triangle with a curved brim? Why are the colors black and red? The Greek name of Pleiades is by no means the only name given to this cluster of stars. The Japanese name is Subaru. The Kanji is 昴 and the haragana is すばる 星. The name of these stars has a big impact on varous cultures. This cluster is also associated with Athor-aye. What is Athor mean? By examining the Coptic calendar that name is the third month of the Ancient Egyptian Year. By comparing the other calendar systems the 4th of Hathor (Athor) is Oct 31 in the Julian and it is Nov 13 in the Gregorian. Hathor is variously known as Athyr, Ἀθύρ in Greek, and هاتور Hatoor in Arabic. Among the records of Rapa Nui (Easter Island) there are festivals marking the appearence and disappearence of the Pleiades and the constellation of Taurus. Work at understanding the Mataveri calender can be accessed here. A lighted candle inside a pumpkin with facial features is a reminder of the Great light that shines within us and can shine through our dark features. This light can occur to be experienced even in the darkest night. A divine spirit can still be present amongst all of other thoughts. That is the reason for this ritual. The use of the Jack O Lantern is the guide of our intellect to lead us along the darken ignorance. The carrying of a light among the night visiting places asking for trick or treats illustrates this wonderful deeper purpose. A unique fact about the moon is that the same position will be repeated in 600 years. Esoteric doctrine carves a different meaning to this. Some historians like to point out great changes appear to occur in cycles of 600. In reality the motion of the moon is also shared by all. The exact meaning refers to the journey of the Soul. How the details involve the growth and development of the soul is expressed in the mansions of the moon. You do not need to view a star map unless you have serious interest. If the 78 tarot paintings were arranged in a circle a path of the soul can be observed. This land of the soul is called Naronia. Notice how your impressions and reasoning have changed, then make an image of what these could be. The sweet influences of this cluster require many to wonder. If a greater picture implies the coming of fall and spring then what does this patch of light when viewed have to do with your soul? The seven stars of the Pleiades can be found by seeking out the three stars at the waist of Orion. These are also sometimes referred to as the three kings. The ability to know requires the path of the initiate. Someone to bing about change. The understanding that the action is within the mind not only in the sky requires seeking out the reason behind the sun and moon spending moments in Taurus. At the moment of fall the full moon no longer is present when the sun is above the horizon. This occurs when the full moon is in Taurus and the Sun is in Scorpio. This absence of one luminary and the relentless seeking of the full moon for the sun happens for six months. Once spring occurs the Full moon and Sun reunite again in Taurus. The constellation of Taurus and the three decans describe the resurrection event. This is played out in the festivals. The greater mystery is that the astronomical allegory you may perceive actually is describing the event of the unification of god. The soul ascending from the winter constellations to the spring constellations arrives at the Pleiades first. This represents the canopy of heaven. In the solar myth Osiris is resurrected. This means the triumph over death and the grave. Writers allude to this knowledge, but it is never revealed in detail. This is the reason why the rituals in many lands are very important to continue on. In the Kom ed-Deir hieroglyphics the decans for Taurus involve a figure of a mummy, a pair of eyes, and a standing figure beside a resting ox. These three constellations are called Orion, Eridanus (the "Nile river"), Aurgia (the charioteer). The figure of the mummy is associated with Orion. The orientation of this constellation various during the months. Watch these configurations and draw them. They tell a story. A further reference to study is John 11:1-44. In Egypt of olden days there was a festival of agriculture and the dead. This celebrates the new year and is the third day of the Isia. This is the 19th of November and the event occurs at midnight. The Goddess Isis represented by the Moon is said to wash carefully Osiris (the sun) and then place Osiris into an Ark. The Mystic boat is then placed into the Nile. This river is represented as the constellation Eriandus in the Greek planisphere. The stars are arranged to satisfy the mythology. There is a correspondence with a myth and the constellations. To study a myth requires proper assignment to the heavens. This gives further information about the myth. The parts of the myth therefore relate to constellations since the constellations also relate to YOU. There is within you a smaller version of the universe. In Fiji the God of agriculture is called Ratumalibu. This God spends half of the time on earth causing plants and fruits to form. The other half is spent in the land of the spirits. Since Fiji is in the southern hemisphere the seasons are reversed from the northern hemisphere. The celebration of the Harvest fest in Fiji is the celebration of Spring. Yet the festival occurs at a similar moment and the rituals are the same. At the time of the fall season in Fiji the God must return to the land of the spirits. This is called Bulu ( pronounced Mbúlu ). A cleansing ritual is performed. This should sound familiar as it is in the Myth of the Sun and Moon exemplified by Osiris and Isis. Here it is described that Isis washes the body of Osiris in the Nile river. In Fiji the God Ratumalibu is given a bath before the return. This is a baptism of water. Waters used to clean and wash away allow the God to reconnect to the new medium. It is the concept of water that is a reference for basic thought substance. The origin of thought. This is exemplified by the removal or placing of figures in mythologies. The concept of a fish is associated with Horus. The early Persia had a constellation of a woman with the head of a fish as part of the first Aquarius decan. The southern fish or Piscis Austrinus. The fish is associated with The Word. The Nun ( נוּן ) or fish is found in Egypt. The God Hiruko ( 蛭子 ) was found in a reed boat by a fisherman named Ebisu えびす. Hiruko had been born with no bones, just as Osiris was missing a fragment. The family of Ebisu nursed and raised the child until the bones grew. This is the regeneration. The iconography of Ebisu is associated with a fish. The connection awaits the faithful to understand. Moses was found in the water by the Pharaoh's daughter and was raised by her. The baby Horus was raised by Nephthys. This is the sister of Isis. The Goddess Aphrodite ( Αφροδίτη ) was born in the water when the phallus and drops of blood originating from the Greek God Ouranos ( Οὐρανός ) [Uranus in Latin (heaven) ] fell and made contact with the sea. The regenerative principle of Uranus plus the water gave birth to the Goddess of Love. The implication of water relates to soul thought. The powers of regeneration require the concept of water. How does knowing the stars help with knowing me? The four positions of the zodiac indicate deeper connections. Each is gradual aspect of consciousness that is necessary and required. At the position of the month of September we experience the Leo-Virgo constellations this is the creation of Sensation. In the month of December it is the Sagittarius-Capricorn constellations. This is the center of Emotion. In the month of March it is the Pisces-Aries mark. This is Mind. In June this will be the Gemini-Cancer constellations. This is Spirit. The four arms of a cardinal cross involve the four parts of consciousness which require the proper mixing of Sensation, Emotion, Mind, and Spirit. Therefore each round of the zodiacal cycle results in growth of consciousness. Your consciousness must be renewed. According to the astrology language the soul is conceived in germinal state at the June zodiacal station (Cancer), becomes integrated in a material organism at the September (Virgo) date of the 21, was quickened to life after virtual "death" under the incubus of body at December (Capricorn), and was raised to a new growth in a fresh cycle beginning at March (Aries), under Easter symbolism. This is why the tarot image of the Emperor is assigned to Aries. You will note the horns of a sheep both in the tarot image and the celestial map drawing for Aries below. The day of 21 in the Julien calendar is the change of the zodiac sign. September 21, then, marks the date at which in the significance of zodiacal language the unit of fiery spiritual essence, an emanation of creative Mind from the supreme Deity which is to be the divine soul of man, descending from the heights of noumenal activity toward manifestation in matter, crosses the line from pure mind force into union with a grade of matter that, being attuned to its vibration, it can mold into an instrument of expression of its potential capabilities of life and consciousness. Indeed once you begin to study these festivals of the dead you will begin to see connections to subjects you never thought had any relationships. The dead and resurrection of Osiris is described in a nursery rhyme. The passage begins Old Mother Hubbard Went to her cupboard To get her poor dog a bone; When she got there, The cupboard was bare, And so the poor dog had none. The bone missing in the cupboard is the one fragment Isis could not retrieve among the 14 parts that had been scattered. This is named the Lingham and is an important piece for regeneration. Isis creates and new one to replace the missing fragment. This is one of abilities of the bright fertile mother. The mother spoken of in the rhyme is called the Aima. Her son is revealed to be the second wand. The "u" in the name. This wand carries out the ability to reproduce. The cupboard is the ark that encases Osiris. In the context of the dismemberment of Osiris the number of parts is significant. That number is 14. The ritual of breaking down is observed when the eucharist is torn. That is the same concept described as the solar body of Osiris is cut into 14 fragments. This number repeats itself in many areas. In the case of Isis representing the moon. The number of days beginning with a new moon required until a full moon is observed requires 14 days. From the full moon to the new moon we can observed the fragmentation process. The moon appears to be breaking down. In the tarot one suite of the minor arcana contains 14 cards. There are 4 suits one for each quarter of a Eucharist. The circular appearance of the Eucharist represents the zodiac. Imagine the body curled up so that the head and feet could almost touch. This means that the zodiac, and hence the body is represented by a Eucharist. This is also the reason why the Eucharist is stored in a chalice. The body being sacred is kept in the Holy Grail. The characteristic sefirot ( ספירות ) describe for some 14 emanations. Their shining abilities are similar to stars. Thus like stars not all can be discerned clearly by the naked eye. The tree of life diagram is a map of the modes of consciousness that could be attained if the practitioner only elects to do so. This is an individual effort. A more realistic diagram. This diagram includes the Ain אין (Nothing) Soph סוף (End) Aur אור Ohr (Light). This is the limitless light, or light with no end. Also included in the diagram is the missing Daath, Daat ( דעת ). As a side note the ( אֵין סוֹף ʾēyn sōf ) portion means limitless, without end, or infinite. Not many of the diagrams available indicate all the sefirot. Additional information must be sought in such cases. One of your study diagrams should include a more complete diagram. Even if you do not use all of them. It is an excellent reference to have at your finger tips. The role of regeneration and renewal are key to understanding the festivals of the dead. The preparation for the rebirth in the spring requires incubation as the Sun spending a portion of six months in the other world undergoing its own conception and birth will again become a new Sun to rein in the world. The rituals serve an important process of what happens to us in our mental development. We do not arrest our development upon reaching adulthood. This temporary loss of understanding is expressed by a recent student of Korean rituals. The feeling that since the majority of the rituals have an agriculture component these rituals may not be applicable to an industrial society. This can be explained by revealing within each of us we all have a smaller solar system. The agriculture rituals point to higher mysteries which are timeless and need to be studied by those who are ready to pursue and understand the greater importance. Whenever we involve ourselves in the sequence of rituals throughout the year our very own conscious awakens. This happens to each of us. Therefore always strive to keep the lanterns burning. The symbolism of the apple in water is the soul floating in the incarnate of life. The placement of the apple in water is the baptism through water. Yet the apple floats it does not sink into the depts. This expresses the hidden meaning of the christ being who walks upon the waters. The higher spirt conscious rises above the water of thought. The practice of using the mouth to rise the apple out of the water teaches a very important lesson. One cannot resolve the dilemma of the soul by physical strength. This power cannot prevent the soul from sinking into elemental life. The way out is by the use of the head. It is the mind alone that can rescue the soul from the water sense life. This requires the connection with the mouth. As from the word wisdom is uttered with Love. In the picture above the relation of the head and The Word is implied by the green vesica piscis embossed with a gold border behind the the head of the girl. The word Witch is from the German word Wissen and means to know. The symbol of the hat describes a triangle. This polygon is a representation of spirit - soul - mind. The vedic terms are quite clear. These words are Atma - Buddhi - Manas. Collectively they are the God head. The arcana of the witch represents the trinity. The flying of the witch upon a broom means the divine fire of purity thinking comes down from heaven. The broom is the cleansing of the filth, and rubbish of the animal mind. The reason behind the dressing up in masks and costumes is the ritual of the soul descending into the animal life. An important number associated with Halloween in 6. The number marks the completion of the material universe. There is an interesting relationship with languages if you are up to the task. The German word for Witch is Hex. The Greek word for 6 is Hex. The tarot key labeled Lover(s) is given the number 6. The honorary representative of Halloween is the Witch. This figure represents the immortal soul with the God head attached in the form of a hat. The celebration of Halloween is the never ending mystery of Life as the soul enters the animal life. The Kemet word for mummy is Karast. It is a symbol of living forever even in death when contained within matter. The similarity of this word can be observed in the Greek word Christos and the English word for Christ as the anointed. Halloween is celebrated for the the "natural man" that develops and prepares prior to the "flowering man." The Greek word for this eve before the morrow is parasceve. This is known as the eve of preparation. Another Greek name is proeortia. This translates as in advance of going out. A costume of a Fool is associated with Halloween and some regions call this All Fool's Night. The meaning of this word Fool is the soul's incarnation. That is into flesh. The Epistle to the Galatians has sound advice. The soul is in its unawakened state of its childhood, corresponding to the ungerminated state of the seed. This seed is supervised by tutors and guardians. The soul is in servitude to the elements and elementals of earth and air. During all this there is the potential of Lord of All. The iconography of The Fool is of deep significance. The tarot of The Fool is described as being unwise, silly, disorganized, and having faulty sense perception. As the soul descends into the realm of the senses. She loses perspective. All the correct decisions involving life consciousness are not valued. There is distraction. The picture of reality is distorted. The confusion produced though generation and the senses is aided by disorientation and ignorance. This is caused by the loss of her divine faculty. The Fool is forced to grope blindly in the darkness and is seeped in folly at every turn. The word Silly means empty to imply air. The Fool may be seen carrying a balloon, a pin wheel, or a bag. The contents of watch may prove to be empty. The word Silly comes from the German word Selig. This word means blessed, Holy. The image of a woman with a harvest moon was accompanied by a rabbit and a cat. The totem of the rabbit is carried over into easter. The original arcana of this totem is still preserved in the Orient. What is this rabbit and moon connection with the festival of resurrection? In the time of the Mid Autumn festival a painting of an immortal fairy flying in the sky holding a rabbit is seen along with a harvest moon. In the Orient the mythology still holds true for the wise to decipher. A God went into the forest disguised as a beggar. This is the soul descending into regeneration and the sense world. The God is disoriented. The beggar meets three animals an otter (or monkey in some versions), fox, and rabbit. These three animals agree to find food for the beggar. This is the trinity. The monkey steals some milk and comes back along with fruits. The fox returns with fish. The rabbit comes with grass. The food of spirit. The rabbit sacrifices herself by jumping into the fire used to prepare the food. The God reveals the true form and rescues the rabbit placing the rabbit on the moon. This is the resurrection. Can one see a rabbit on the moon? The totem relationship is special. The rabbit of the three animals mentioned has a gestation period close to 28 days. Some species vary. The rabbit totem serves as the opener.
