The word hour appears in the manuscripts of the new testament. The angel names of the Shem HaMephorash (שם המפורש) are associated with hours. Texts on magic inevitably mention planetary hours as well as two different types of hours. An hour for day and an hour for night. What then do these hours actually mean? They have to do with an old branch of psychology. The sun represents the soul. The journey the sun makes about the ecliptic plane experiences different archetypes represented by an hour system. The concept of using an astrological model to describe conscious states points to the origins of what the field of astrology was intended. This is where the explanation of astrology comes from. The purpose is to rule the stars rather than be ruled by them. By now you are aware that the terms fixed stars, and planets have a meaning regarding the function of the nervous system to produce thoughts and emotions. Lets examine how the hour is used to understand the mental activity of the universe (heaven + earth). Consciousness has four (4) transcendental states. The word transcendental implies spiritual non physical phenomena. The four states vary in a graduate manner. These ascend in degrees from an earth state to a heaven state. State {1} Waking, State {2} Dreaming, State {3} Dreamless sleep, State {4} Spiritual Illumination. These states occur in a timing sequence. Hence the use of the word hour. When the Kundalini reaches the brain centers it is the Third Hour. This is where consciousness passes from the physical world to the psychic plane (The plane is properly described as a region of a non-specified dimensionality). This is the dreaming state. The states are where your consciousness can actually be. It is possible to be in more than one state. What happens at the sixth hour? Why is it called midnight? At the sixth hour the conscious passes from the psychic state of dreaming to the state of dreamless sleep. Such a state is called blankness. Poetically at the sixth hour, the Sun is shorn of its rays, and darkness reigns. If you cannot detect anything with your physical eyes you must develop your spiritual organs. This is a slow process. The key to any magic requires the introspection of each rung on the Jacob's ladder. The characteristics of each spiritual entity must be studied along the path of return from earth to heaven. This is the mystery of Golgotha (κρανίον) or (Calvary), otherwise known as the place of the skull. The crucifixion occurs inside the head in the fornix. Not only do we have a process where the spinal fluid enters the head to produce light we also have a notation of time used to describe the conscious state when this event occurs with inside us. The ninth hour occurs when the conscious transfers from the state of dreamless to the state of spiritual illumination. When the veil is rented the Sun is again crowed with its rays. We become illuminated as the fornix burns the sacred oil in the lamps of our head and the Thalamus is activated. The number nine (εννιά) in Greek is used to imply new (Νέα). The new beginning. A psychological description of the different hours is provided in a work called the Nuctemeron. The origin of the work is quite old. Students will eventually realize that the knowledge provided is about the mind. That is why archeological evidence always finds traces of this work in Assyria, Egypt, India, China, and so on. The reason is it is about our conscious states and how they are affected with entities in different planes. Folklores call them spirits, gnomes, uridines, fairies. Notice how a mind is influenced by being in a company of happy people, and how it changes at a sad occasion. A smile can brighten a room. A glass of wine can influence the mind to misbehave. We cannot actual perceive entities but we can observe their influence. Colors of purple and red have a wide affect on how people behave. These entities associated with the colors provide the actual change in behavior. In the Nuttemeron the text mention the genii by name. These assist in the control of the events that must occur during the specified hour. A different set of genii are used for each hour. The names serve as triggers to effect the change. Twelve hours are describe in the Nuttemeron.
The First hour. In unity, the demons chant the praises of God; they lose their malice and fury. The word demon means spirit. It comes from the Greek word daemon (δαίμων). By using the spirits to praise the creator the feelings of excess energy is grounded to the earth. A calming occurs. In Hermetic science all physical events come from spirit. To change your surroundings you must change your thoughts. This is why it is important in the First hour to direct the spirits to the desired outcome. The Second hour. By the dyad, the zodiacal fish chant the praises of God; the fiery serpents interlace about the caduceus, and the lightning become harmonious. The fiery serpents are the kundalini. The caduceus is the spinal column with the two channels ida, and pingala. By being harmonious the energy is balanced. This requires that your elements Fire, Water, Air, Earth are balanced. Therefore a visit from the kundalini will not happened in a state of anger, or stress. To chant the praises of God insures the rise of the two currents. The Third Hour. The serpents of the Hermetic caduceus entwine three times; Cerberus opens his triple jaw, and fire chants the praises of God with the three tongues of the lightning. When the three tongues occur that is when the third channel is activated, this is known as the Sushumna. The Fourth Hour. At the fourth hour the soul revisits the tombs; the magical lamps are lighted at the four corners of the circle ; it is the time of enchantments and illusions. This event occurs within the skull. The Fifth Hour. The voice of the great waters celebrates the God of the heavenly. The Sixth Hour. The spirit believes itself immovable; it beholds the infernal monsters swarm down upon it, and does not fear. The Seventh Hour. A fire, which imparts life to all animated beings, is directed by the will of pure men. The initiate stretches forth his hand, and pains are assuaged. The Eighth Hour. The stars utter speech to one another; the soul of the suns corre- sponds with the exhalation of the flowers; chains of harmony create correspondence between all natural things. The Ninth Hour. The number which must not be divulged. See the description above. This is the transfer from the dreamless sleep to spiritual illumination. The Tenth Hour. The key of the astronomical cycle and of the circular movement of human life. The Eleventh Hour. The wings of the genii move with a mysterious and deep murmur; they fly from sphere to sphere, and bear the messages of God from world to world. The Twelfth Hour. The works of the light eternal are fulfilled by fire. We pass through these states. The aim of the initiate is to work through each of the hours. This is the alchemical laboratory where the manipulations occur. The use of art, music, vibrations, and perfumes can be used to bring about changes in the conscious states. They are the triggers. This work involves the hypnotic state observed in animal magnetism. Such changes in conscious occurs when we watch a play, listen to music, perform on stage, or carryout an invocation.
