A misunderstood text in the literature of China has caused great difficulties for western scholars. The work in question is translated in english as the Spring Autumn Annals. The title is written as 呂氏春秋. To add to the confusion the translations never indicate the sections from which these passages are taken out of context. The interpretations make for some fascinating fiction. One refers the annals to be a political commentary [1]. Another believes a certain passage provides the instructions for the creation of the chinese tonal music system [2]. The fact that there is insufficient information to construct a tonal scale has not provided any important clues that this therefore has nothing to do with music. In fact both scholarly ventures are wrong. The Spring Autumn Annal is in fact an esoteric text, describing the neurophysiology of the human being. The translations of the passage vary widely. An important fact is that the names are required to correctly understand the information the text conveys. This includes the the name Ling Lun and the mountains. A big mistake is to search for the the mountains referenced in the text on the earth One version is reproduced here: The yellow emperor ordered Ling Lun ( 伶倫) to make pitch standards. Ling Lun (伶倫) travelled west of Daxia (大夏) all the way to the northern slopes of the Ruanyu (阮瑀) mountains. [3] He gathered bamboo from the valleys of Xieqi (嶰谿) (clearly a medical reference) and, selecting those pieces with chambers and walls of uniform thickness, he cut a section from between two nodes. The length of a section was 3.9 inches and he blew into it. The sound produced was pleasing. he called it the yellow bell (黃鐘). [4] The yellow bell is a metaphor used in alchemy literature to describe the kundalini. The work goes on to talk about the construction of a pitch pipes using the yellow bell as a reference. Ling Lun (伶倫) prepares several pitch pipes (lülü 律呂) The actual meaning of (呂) is spine. The glyph resembles a human spine. This topic will continue in a later post.

Actual text in complex script below
