The curious seekers eventually find out that the DADA movement had its beginning in the Cabaret Voltaire, located in Zürich, Switzerland. Way back in 1916. That is usually where it ends for most of us. Then we leave it at that. The movement was anti war, or we were told dada is a child's made up word. All is lies. The reason was buried from view. Read on to find the TRUTH.Reference Films used to recreate the first shows reveal a different event taking place. Notice the dance moves of the women. Here is a current link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkl92oV1kMc The film was called Dada, 1969 Hugo Ball was not creating gibberish, or a weird art form. He was invoking the spirits. His source of information was esoteric texts. An important clue lies in the motion of the female dancers. These are the moves similar to what Gurdjieff was doing in the same year in St. Petersburg. This misunderstanding of artist using masks from Africa has weaken European scholarship. The artists were not seeking inspiration by exploring the art produced from the societies there. An examination of classic photo of Ball reveals the fish motif. This photo is of his famous performance where he gave his trance establishing speech. Known as the magic bishop. His tall hat is referred to as a shaman's hat. He gave his performance slowly gadji beri bima glandridi lauli lonni cadori gadjama bim beri glassala glandridi glassala tuffm I zimmrabim balsa galassasa tuff I zimbrabm and so on. He gave two poems following the introduction. These were Song to Clouds and Elephant Caravan. Hugo Ball used a book written by the artist Vasily Kandinsky entitled Sounds. These were 38 prose poems and 56 woodcut prints. This also shows, being that Kandinsky study esoteric texts, a heavy influence of esoteric information among the members of the Voltaire cabaret. Kadinsky's book can be found at this site: https://monoskop.org/images/d/d9/Kandinsky_Klaenge.pdf Photo Reference Schweizerisches Literaturarchiv Bern, Switzerland The enlarged head showing growth of the mind following the unification of the upper and lower minds. He is dressed for a swim like a leviathan. The verbal interplay developed for the shows had its origin in the work Lingua Ignota, Author Hildegard von Bingen, 1200 AD. Texts for the performances came from such works as The Flowing Light of the Godhead, by Mechthild, 1250 AD. Another source was the Aurora by Jakob Bohme, 1612 AD. Hugo Ball made a conscious effort to introduce mystic elements into his productions. More information on his methods are just beginning to be introducd into the main stream literature and other medias. Hugo Ball pointed out his DADA stood for the initials of Dionysius the Areopagite. That is a fitting end for this article. In his De Coelesti Hierarchia. Dionysius lists the spirits:
