Many have expressed interest in rituals. Few understand what the procedures are for. They find directions on how to conduct them. Inside themselves they feel they are drawn to a particular tradition. There is still a hidden pull to begin a new life. Some also feel hesitant despite the attempts. There exists a lot of unknown. Information available is encyclopedic and does not explain what to expect. On a stage a temple, a shrine, or even a person the understanding of the quadrants is very important. Variations exist throughout the world. You see this figure above described upon buildings, paintings, parks, theaters, schools, and even street intersections. The examples are often imaginative. All cultures use various images and designs. Yet the meaning of the figure is the same. Even though the figure is represented differently. Many are not clear as to the actual meaning but the cultural icons are familiar at a glance. First the origins of the diagram. The source of the compass directions comes from a constellation on the northern hemisphere. It is currently labeled as the Great Bear. The Ursa Major. In fact to solve the mystery what many traditions do not discuss is what the four quarters represent. To do so would lead one to begin asking what do the constellations of the currently named patterns of Bears actually represent. This will require some soul searching on the part of the reader. In fact only a seeking of knowledge will grasp what form underlies the pattern of lights. This leads into realizing the seven candle sticks and the seven stars in the hand are not identical but represent different constellations. Let us focus on the larger figure. In early times one would not call this art in the sky a bear. From her four figures could be obtained. They were noted as animals. One Hippopotamus, One Ape, One Lion, and One Crocodile. The imagination would require help is describing the source of these animals. The directions and hence the terms of the elements waters, air, fire, and earth refer to this constellation. Again this does not come from the zodiac. This is an important point. If this only involved the stars in the sky no one would take further interest. Therefore there must exist a deeper meaning. This in fact means we are talking about the body. Readers of these articles are well endowed with knowledge and recognize that whenever a figure contains a cross or cube we are speaking about the body. Two images already contain the cross. The four animals are metaphors for the systems and organs that support the body. An old Egyptian text states their purpose is to sustain the vault of heaven. This of course means the head containing the cerebrum. By looking at the image above you can gain an understanding as to what the figures called the "Sons of Horus" actually mean. These sons are the systems of your own body. Therefore a ritual involves the mental process of recognizing and cleaning out old ideas by acknowledging your own organs and the important role that they provide you. This is the reason why the stomach is the carpenter. This is where food is used as a building material to build the structures in the body. The relation to Magic is striking. In any aspect homage must be paid to the stomach. It is said that the purpose of ritual is to put you in charge rather than let forces have their way with you. The Blood lungs, and heart are very important for the tasks at hand. The purpose of invocations begins with the bodily functions. This explains the actual role of ritual is to gain control of ourselves. The images that represent the four quadrants can be different. The direction and the elements are always the same. This will make nature less of a mystery. On a stage the same geometry is presented. This is established for both the actors and the audience. The same four figures are shown at the left hand side standing upon the tree of life drawn as a flower. This shows that the four Tarot keys 0 12 20 and 21 actually represent the four quadrants. They are in fact Water, North 12 The Hanging Man. Air, East 0 The Fool, Fire, South West 20 Judgement, Earth, West 21 The World. This building, in shanghai, is constructed upon the 4 genii design. There are four entrances at the North, East, South, and West. This again is the description of the human body. Notice the presence of the cross. The directions are the same. The four genii are black tortoise in the north, blue green dragon in the East, Vermillion bird in the south, White tiger in the west. The four deer in the northern tradition is again the same 4 Genii and relates to the system and organs of the body. Here the deer are placed in their proper location in the Tree of Life. The same 4 Genii are represented in this stain glass window. They relate to the same parts of the body and their directions are based on the Ursa Major constellation. The book of Ezekiel describes four animals. They are in fact metaphors for the organs and circulatory systems. These animals support the throne. The river Chebar where the 4 animals were seen is the spinal column. Ezekiel Chapter 1 verse 15. The brain supported by the heart, liver, spleen, stomach, intestines. Another way to paint a person. Think about it.

People are described as a riddle. When we meet and greet it takes time to understand a person. Why does this happen? Are we not constant in attitude? How much of our behavior depends on the conditions that surround us? To meet someone is the actual process of solving a riddle. When you deal with a person you do not experience a single person but a combine synthesis of 12 bodies. This will sound strange. With the physical eye only one body is perceived. Then comes the riddle ask an artist why they decided to paint a flower all in red. The answer will be unclear. When we create something we are at a loss as to explain how we did it. This phenomena is repeated on a daily basis. Ask someone to describe how they solved a geometry problem, or how to prepare a delicious meal. The mental process involved in creation is different than the process of analysis. This provides a clue as to how our minds are designed. Autumn is a season in the cyclic process of thought. This cycle is associated with a temperament called Melancholia. In order to understand the mind we have to understand plants. There is a deep connection. The names of the anatomy of the nervous system use terms from agriculture. In Autumn is when the fruits of the harvest are obtained from the tree. The process of creating requires the aspects of attention and devotion. A full amount of concentration is necessary. This introspection is the hallmarks of Melancholia. Part of the joy in partaking in performance Art is in trying to guess or figure out what will the final image be. We are watching the birth of an idea from someone’s head. One would like to know how this is possible. Neuroscience wants to understand this as well. The clue to what the artist is doing lies in the alchemical key called Saturn. The symbol involves a sickle and a cross. The meaning of the cross involves respiration. The other part relates to the medulla at the base of the brain. Here is where new connections must be made whenever a new skill or technique is developed. This can be from learning to play a new musical score. Painting a masterpiece or cooking a meal. Any process involving the bringing into the physical world demands new nerve connections to be made. The correct connections have to be made. Therefore effort is required. We may think there is something that makes an Artist differ from other people. That is not true. We have all been provided the necessary tools. The development of Art requires the Will from the Ego to overcome the inertia of the Earth. Notice again the relationship of agriculture. Earth in this sense is not the course form of rock and soil. The finer manifestation of Earth involves the mental concepts of organization and materialism. If we can imagine the home that we want to live in we must work from the picture in our mind. That is the approach to using the mental gift you have been given. The more mundane approach is to strive to work untenable goals. The thought is by wealth it will happened. This is the strictly material trap. By way of forgetting you have a mind you will find yourself unable to cope with your will. The desire to obtain things will haunt your mind and make you feel a prisoner of the emotions. Rather than in reality you are in control of your mind. The ability to assume bodily control requires again the proper use of the Saturn key. You must firmly decide what you want to do! When this is determined the ideas will flow. They are of course not from the material world. The realm of ideas is in the world of spirit. Here anything is possible and is not limited by material concepts. It is always important to realize that the things around you came from the Mind. Therefore you yourself can devise new items. This is the most important lesson that one can learn from the attributes of Melancholia. A person in control of the mind will utilize the important aspects of all the mental tools at their disposal and not be overcome by their powerful nature. When an idea or process is worked out we are unable to explain how we came up with the idea. Thoughts tend to emerge in a downward fashion from the Mind to the Body. To explain our methods would require another way of thinking. This shows that we can learn some aspects of the mind. The way ideas form is described as the Lightning path. [The lightning path describe. This is how ideas and thoughts evolve from the mind into a physical manifestation.] Attempts to explain our method would require more effort and hence more ideas to outline our method to another person. This shows another aspect of out Mind. We cannot share our mental approach with another person. Our way of thinking is private. The different parts of the human consciousness can be described as geometric spheres on a diagram called the Tree of Life. These are like fruits on the tree. Whenever we have a thought it has passed through or was modified by each of these fruits. [The various aspects that make up the Mind. The nerves are grouped according to levels in the body. The Spirit domain is the head, The Soul domain is the heart and stomach, The personality is the kidneys.] These fruits can be combined into three triangles. Here the fruits partake in making up our mind. At the top a triangle represents our highest thoughts. We call this the spirit domain. This is the region of the head. The middle triangle makes up the heart and upper chest region. The lower triangles makes up the personality. This results in producing our character. Because our Mind has the functioning of a tree our personality can evolve as the Tree grows. A simple example can demonstrate a person involved in constructing delicate equipment will require much concentration. This is an aspect of being Melancholia. Lets suppose after work this person is very determined to have their own way. This would be a strong willed characteristic. We would think this person is unpleasant to be with. He is very Choleric. When this person returns home the behavior is entirely different. The person is easily going and slow to anger. People around this person would consider the person to lack ambition and drive. This is a phlegmatic characteristic. Now we learn something else about the mind. The ability to change is possible. A person is never the same. The evolution of the mind is a requirement of the soul’s journey. [Description of the components that contribute to our personality. This is at the Kidney level. These are Ego, Astral body, Etheric body, and Physical body.] Even though this contributes to what we can perceive as emotions these triangles cannot be detected. The nerves involved in this area are in the kidneys and lower abdomen. What we perceive as personality is a combination of four extreme cases. In actuality people experience different degrees at different times throughout the day and night. The tree has 12 fruits that can contribute to our persona. Yet only the six of the 12 make the strongest impact. The other six farther from the body have less an effect on personality. Again this shows something about how our minds are designed. This is also why we often cannot explain how we come up with our ideas. As the source of creativity lies beyond where personality is created. Since we have one physical body the others have to instill and insist that their whims be carried out. This contributes to stress. The lowest fruits comprise Physical body, Etheric body, Astral body, and the ego.One of these four members can take dominance over the others and manifest as a temperament. Case 1 Melancholic Temperament The physical body dominates. Case 2 Phlegmatic Temperament The etheric or life body dominates. Case 3 Sanguine Temperament The astral body dominates Case 4 Choleric Temperament The ego dominates To keep it simple one can use this list as a guide to understand which of the four members are dominating. It actuality two or three members may try to form an alliance to overcome the other members. The objective is for the members on your tree of life to cooperate and work together. This provides the necessary stabilization. Understanding the meaning behind the Temperament names is really important as this takes away the mystery and ignorance behind the study of the mind and body. The names actually point to the circulatory organs and glands where these members are able to express their action. In fact it points towards a theory to explain their mechanism where in fact emotion emerges from the body. Melancholia The physical body dominates and the body is the site of the expression. Pain and feeling of despondency. The danger is that a state of prolonged Melancholia cannot be maintained. The other members of the Tree must work to impress their views into the body as a team effort. Single participation only leads to more problems. Phlegmatic Dominated physically by the glands. Apathy, dullness Sanguine Astral body is expressed by the nerves. Here the activity is dominated by the nervous system. Large fluctuations are present. Thoughts and emotions will change constantly. Only the Ego can rein in this activity. The nervous system activity can only be restrained by the blood. Without the aid of the blood illusions and hallucinations will occur. This is observed in Anemic conditions. Choleric Dominated by the blood system. This is because the Ego is expressed in the circulatory system. This provides a forcefulness of will. [The Tree of Life draw in a different way. Each of the 12 worlds (Fruits) are represented.]
This artist chose to draw the Tree of Life in a horizontal format. You will observe that all 12 of the fruits or bodies are working together in harmony. Here all 12 of the members are shown. The work may not be familiar as such but in Art the Tree of Life appears in many forms. There is a mathematical reason for this phenomena. It relates the senses to the consciousness. This particular image is well known. It has been reproduced many times. Yet the content and meaning have long been forgotten. We strive to live in the physical world even though our thoughts do not. The figure being carried represents the soul. The Gold represents the spirit. This is why the flame appears at the very top. This is the spiritual light. In alchemy the metal gold is associated with the spiritual state where thoughts first emanate. The symbol of light means the connection with the process of thinking. During our lives the Temperaments will change as the various members of the Tree of Life grow and evolve. This aspect allows for the conscious mind to overcome the automatic nervous system in the struggle for control of the physical body. People often fall into a trance or feel in a helpless state unable to cope with what the sense physically is impossible to change. The methods of Art, Music, Tai Qi, Yoga, Alchemy, and other systems were utilized to aid in this goal. We seldom think of breathing as the determining factor in what makes a work of Art a masterpiece. When viewers participate in a performance their role is not understood. The participants breathing patterns change as they watch the artists engage in their craft. As the artist places paint on the canvas the respiration changes. Is there a record of the breathing pattern? The view of a painting done years ago has a different effect upon the viewer. Yet the question why paintings made during the renaissance have a different effect upon the eyes than paintings made in later eras goes unanswered. We have a clue and that is when watching performance Art we have a much different sensation that can be experienced not by a single person but by a group. Notice that freshly made Art has a direct experience on the human nervous system and pulmonary system. When paint was supplied to artists in tubes and spray cans the luster and desire on the canvas was lost. Artists began to search for ways to aid motion into their designs. This motion brought back a return to the life of the painting. The application of patterns in the brush strokes has an impression on the Mind. It is not the image that people are thrilled with. The effect of the direction of the brush and the rhythm as a the brush touched the surface. The painting is a record of the Artist’s breath. The ability to capture meditation on a canvas. These symbols seem to point to the concept of breath and motion. Breathing is where it is at. These patterns of long and short lines refer to different periods of inhalations and exhalations. During Tai Qi movements the breathing pattern changes to facilitate the shifting of weight as the arms and legs move. This is so as the nerves require energy to perform their work. There are several art forms where knowledge of how breathing patters affects the performance would be practical. These include drumming, Cello, Dance, Painting, and Tai Qi. The effects on the nervous system by the lungs is not understood because neuro endocrinological effects are difficult to measure and interpret in living systems. Students of Tai Qi have speculated if the movements could be captured by painting what image would be produced? An important advantage to this methodology is that it provides a new Art form. This will allow breath to be an active participate in a performance. A way to understand this effect is by experiencing the feeling of a temperature change on the skin when listening to music. The phenomena is called Frission. The feeing of a shiver. The change in musical dynamics can cause this to occur in the listener. What happens to the performer? Do they also experience this sensation at the same moment as the listener? Using the hands and feet as probes we can create images and use the body as a source of music, color, and texture. This captures a moment on canvas. Learning the silent language of breath is a requirement to enlightenment in the next century.
Such a vital Artist tool has been long neglected. If anyone wanted to construct an Art Gallery. The first piece of Art to greet the viewers must surely be this one. Art has a language. The ability to learn the language is the step towards perfecting the mind and body. Art enriches us. This image is a very example of the power that Art has on us. The alchemist describes the metal lead as a silvery grey substance that can take on a blackish appearance. The Artist chose this color to associate the sacral region of the body with the transformative power that lies inside our loins. By tapping into this painting the viewer can transform their thoughts into Gold! We normally are unaware of the treasures that we possess inside us. This makes us take life for granted. A sorry state of affairs! By examining this image we come to understand subconsciously at least what the story means to return a Pearl but retain the box. We lack a deep understanding that the Fool who gives up the Pearl is a reference to our birth state (买椟还珠). We appreciate the outside appearance of our bodies, our friends, our social standing, but ignore what great treasures lie inside our own mountains. These mountains of course are a veiled reference to the internal organs of the body. The metals that are present in these mountains are the various nerve clusters that make up our thoughts and contribute to the nervous system. This means the breathing, and digestive system along side our mental activity are not isolated. How we think will affect our breath, and our stomach and vice versa. This is also where the term Treasure Mountain comes from. A knowledge of the types of metals buried inside the earth and how they can be transmuted is the key to refining our personality. Art allows this automatically. This is why alchemy texts employed copious amounts of pictures. The use of the visual Arts is the doorway to the temple of the mind. The subconscious is able to work with any picture either scene with the naked eye or composed by the mind’s eye. A mentally constructed painting is what we are accustomed early in life and continue throughout the day and evening. Thus unaware we could be sending the wrong message to ourselves we blame ourselves and the environment when events in our life go not the way we intended. The entering of a gallery allows the chance to correct those images we submit to our subconscious. A different picture for each nerve cluster. By hanging a collection of paintings in a gallery it is possible to activate the nervous system of the viewer. Therefore the designs the Artist selects for the Work are messages for each part of the mind. An example of this concept can be seen in the picture below This implies that through Art we can communicate with the various psychic centers that habitat the spinal column. The Chimera sculpture of Arezzo Italy shows a lion body with a lamb and snake. This sculpture is quite complex for the message it contains. the activation of the cardiac gland by the energy supplied from the sacral gland cannot be achieved successfully without the intervention of the pineal gland. Else the energy will be wasted and you cannot make gold. The result would be anger on the part of the viewer and their thoughts remain in the physical world. Only seeing what can be believed and not utilize their imagination. This is the reason why people consider the chimera to actually exist in the remote past. They are unaware that these images are the aspects and powers of their own mind! These are in fact tools for us to use to advanced spiritually and therefore physically. The actual role of the chimera is to show through Art the mental concepts that cannot be envisioned by using words. People that are not exposed to Art, only experience concrete thinking. The Alchemists describe such thoughts by the metal lead. In order to rise beyond the material world of fiber wood, glass, and metal a way was found utilizing Art. This was done to remember that the source of the material world came from the Spirit world. Just as our ideas are used to create the physical world around us. This is a way of going from the world of physical dimensions to the world of abstract ideas. The alchemists call this the transmutation of the lead into gold. The metal called gold means spiritual thinking. The mountain where gold can be mined is the cardiac gland. The sculpture of the three animals also provides the meaning of the hidden esoteric wisdom behind the Chinese idiom (虎頭蛇尾) Tiger’s head Snakes tail. This is actually a yogic reference to chakra activation. The information contained in the words is made completely unaware to the users of the language. Without the careful intervention of the pineal gland, represented as a goat, the yoga process will not work. In effect you would be left with only lead and not gold. This is why no mention of a lamb, or goat is included in the idiom. There is much more to the sculpture. If you notice the snake’s tail is not completely in line with the heads of the other two animals: the goat and a the lion. This means the Art shows the actual process of awakening state. The serpent is using her power to aid the other nerve centers. The red drawing line shows the establishment of the life force which comes from the sacral psychic center. When all three glands are activated you have achieved the gold making process. In converting to making your thoughts free from the mundane world the viewer achieves the ability to use their mind efficiently. This pattern is more than a motif found in Art works. The brain shows signals that have this same pattern. Notice here we have a transformation. The serpent in the tail now resides around the head. The background shows the psychic centers of the human body as a purple mountain range. The lowest mountain on the right is the sacral plexus. The purple color denotes that all the centers are spiritually awakened and are working in unison. The yellow color denotes the color of gold to symbolize the change from concrete thinking to a new form. The chakras along the spinal column are communicative channels for the dialogue of Art. The use of different designs allows the Artist to awaken and hold a conversation with the mind and body. Through conscious sleep we are not aware that this is possible. Yet this higher form of language exits and is continually being rediscovered by Artists. This is a valuable lesson for Galleries as they become the focal point to allow this conversation to happen. Whenever a culture wishes to advance the Artists are encouraged to flourish. By examining Art from different times and places we can learn that the superconscious wishes to established a conversation with the sleeping conscious. The Akasha (आकाश) is the fifth element from which all the mental tools we have at our disposal are derived. These tools are actually the forces that give us our consciousness. In western thought Akasha is called Spirit, or Quintessence. In China Akasha is called Metal. This element is used to derive the remaining four elements. They are called Fire Water, Wood, and Earth. These words can be seen written inside the Temple of Heaven. In China the name for hardware is represented by the number 5. This is actually has an esoteric meaning. The tools one needs for their task are these five forces. Therefore the hardware store reminds you from the name of what it provides the customer. The real intention from the name is to remind you that what you possess is all around you. It will define you. The objective is to learn how to use the tools to control your world. The Akasha is full of forms in their potential state. The symbol for this entity is a black oval. The shape of the oval will appear familiar to many as it is used for the mathematical symbol called zero (0). The five elements can be described by a color and a shape. This is used as an aid since we can only “see” the effects by these elemental forces on matter and not their actual presence. The black oval of course is Metal. The yellow square is Earth. The red triangle is Fire. The blue circle is Wood. The light blue crescent is Water. These forces are described by their properties. Metal provides space in which to act. Wood provides locomotion. Fire provides expansion. The counterforce to Fire is Water. Water provides contraction. Earth provides cohesion and resistance to movement. We often do not understand the reason why zero was included into a number system. The number appears only useful to denote large and small amounts. Representing .01 or 100.00 would be difficult without the use of zero. There is something hidden in the number system that is never discussed. The numbers actually have a gender. The even numbers are expressed as male and odd numbers as female. 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9. The state of the Metal depends on the depth of the darkness. Fresh ideas give more light and the metal appears to have specks of light. This is the meaning of the white spaces showing through the black oval on the top and right side. Like a face having an oval appearance the curved shape gives the impression of a metaphor for the mind. The Artist shows that fresh ideas are demanded of by the viewer. Without no new thoughts the oval will be completely black. This is termed Avidya and means ignorance. A dark state of mind means that no ideas can be received and the person is forced to stay in a conservative frame of mind. The cross and the circle are ancient symbols. The meaning of this painting is not obvious one from the conscious. A meditative glance will reveal the subconscious point of view. The cross actually describes respiration. It is the effect of spirit on matter. In our elemental view Metal acts upon matter to produce the elements of Fire, Water, Wood, and Earth. Before any idea can form breath is required. The awareness of breath and thinking is not obvious. Don’t We Breathe. It is automatic! Yes for a machine. But you are not a mechanical toy. If you start to take slow deep breaths consciously it will affect your thinking. You become calm and you mind starts to create. The higher self takes over. This is what the symbol of the cross really means. The higher mind mixes with the lower mind. This activity produces thought. Short rapid breaths result in conflict. The mind can not focus and anger occurs. Energy is wasted and people cannot focus. This fact is a key to understanding the neurophysiological puzzle. That is how can viewing Art have such a profound effect on the mind and body. It is as though the colors and shapes upon the canvas start a conversation with the various psychic centers in the body. If we were to detect blood flow at the skin surface of the viewer with a brain scanner we would observe dramatic changes of blood flow as they observe a painting. This correlates with changes in heart and respiration. Art has been described as the interpreter of the mind to science by Johann Goethe. He was very much interested in how the mind and body function. As the paintings in the series progresses they become smoother. This is the process of thinking when we conceive a thought. The idea will not become clear unless we make the effort to shape the idea. By a gradual the idea will eventually be produced by our hands. The work above shows the two components necessary for the mind to produce a child. The red spherical shapes on the left represent the element Water and the the black lines on the right represent Fire. When will interacts with emotion hence when Fire mixes with Water the children are produced. these are intellect and organization. These are the brother and sister elements called Wood and Earth. Therefore one complete thought has four parts. These involve Will, Intuition, Intellect, and Organization Here we can learn how the forces of the elements are used to define our personality. The element Fire is the source of our will. The element Water is the our emotion and more importantly this is where intuition resides. The element Wood is the source of our intellect. The last element Earth is where organization and materialization occurs. Without Earth no idea can be born. The interaction of the elements used by us occurs by same observation of gender. The element called Metal is both male and female. The element Fire is male. the element Water is female. The element Wood is male and the element Earth is female. The element Metal produces the other four elements it is the origin. This is reason why the oval represents this element. The application of the four elements can be described by the figure below. The level of mental activity occurs at the different nerve centers in the body. The Will occurs in the cerebrum. At this level all possible thoughts are possible. We call it the world of archetypes. Some of these thoughts are not practical. Some are not clear but seem useful. This is where intuition is necessary. The emotion and intuition occurs in the throat nerves. After insight is provided by intuition. This is called the world of creation. The idea is refined using the intellect. This is Wood and occurs at the Heart and Kidney nerve centers. This world is called Formation. Here one can see the idea forming in the mind. We say it is crystal clear. The last and most important step is Earth. This is the Material world. At this level the entire nervous system is involved. This is where the idea can be viewed by your friends as a finished product. Here the painting is smoother in appearance. This is after Fire, the will, interacts with water, the intuition. Therefore there are several possible ideas for this thought to go forth and take shape. Each circle and line represent the parents. Notice two of the elements are represented by straight lines and two are represented by ovals. This is intended. That means your will and intellect are described artistically by a ‘1’ and your intuition and organization are represented by ‘0’. These are the basis to create a series of numbers. If you were to combine 1 in front of 0 you have 10. There is hidden knowledge in this simple statement. By observing how to design ten from one and zero you open the door to creation. This shows that from the elements of Metal, Fire, Wood, and Earth your mind can create anything you wish. The wand in the figure’s hand and the cup on the table represent the same concepts the artist is conveying. The wand represents the black line which is the will. The cup on the table has the identical round shape of the red oval. This is emotion. The purpose of the image is to show the objective is to control the elements rather than have them control you. The objects on the table show a wand, cup, sword, and coin. These represent the same four elements. The wand is will or Fire. The cup is emotion or Water. The sword is intellect or Wood. The coin is organization or Earth. The idea behind the coin is to show physical wealth. This is the product of your thoughts. This is the Artist chose simple motifs in the paintings yet they provide such powerful knowledge. The picture above shows the mind in activity doing what it does best. These is where the combinations of the five elements are used to produce the desired thought. The clockwise spiral shows the required mixing of the worlds of archetype and creation to give the worlds of formation and materialization.
