We can work with three states of consciousness in our day to day thinking. Just as a trinity. This can be described as the objective self, subjective self, and the cooperative self. The objective self refines from the harsh criticisms and finds solutions. The subjective self is quick to blame when things do not go right. The use of the pronoun I or self is a frequent device in expression. The cooperative is the glue that holds the objective and subject selves together. More specifically the alchemical model distinguishes three functional worlds. They are Mercury, Sulfur, and Salt. The Mercury refers to the superconscious, Sulfur maps to the self-conscious, and Salt the subconscious. This may at first seem simple but much is left out. With no words. The artist would find the study of the text useful for the motifs contained therein. The stag represents the soul, the unicorn represents the spirit. The Forrest represents the body that these two creatures dwell in. The unification of Mercury (spirit) and Sulfur (soul) is depicted with a Basilisk. Such a union is referred to as the "child of the philosopher." The design shows two different animal components. A dragon and a rooster. This is the nature of why chimera are created. To demonstrate the achievement of unifying different principles.
