Bill Evans once wrote the following: "There is a Japanese visual art in which the artist is forced to be spontaneous. He must paint on a thin stretched parchment with a special brush and black water paint in such a way that an unnatural or interrupted stroke will destroy the line or break through the parchment..." A hard question to find an answer to is what is the Japanese name? I have spoken to many and yet no one has an answer. Until an answer arrives we will have to wonder why no representations of this art form exist in today's media. The apprehension to place paint on paper prevents society to advance. This is because art causes the mind to utilize its components fully. The three aspects of our being enter a wonderful dialogue. This is called Sulfur, Salt, and Mercury to some. Others call it the Conscious, Subconscious, and Supraconscious. They may not be familiar to you. These aspects make up your mind and art assists in the flow of information. Art is made to be experienced. Bill Evans hints further at this concept where he drops this gemstone in his writings. "...Those who see will find something captured that escapes explanation." The furthering of your thoughts comes with the exertion required. The viewer is demanded to create just as the artist. The time this is performed could be at the moment the painting is being made or far into the future. The advantage of performance art is that of being there. As in a live performance. The most ambitious of our mind exploration projects yet is to understand how motion of the artists influences their art. This will study how our breathing is affected while we watch an artist perform and how the artists are affected as they perform.
Rudolf Steiner correctly pointed out it is the effect of the people in an activity that produces the wonderment. The attempts to use machinery are not useful as what people can bring is innate in them. If you wish to participate in this project please contact the moderator of this blog.
