All you need is a little air, water, fire, and earth to stand upon. (Anonymous) The forces that we can not perceive with our senses are said to be composed of five types. The results of their actions are felt by us. Here actions refer to the vibrations of the media that interact with these forces. The composition of the media is gross matter. These interactions can be detected by our senses and can be measured by instruments made by humans. Collectively these forces are referred to as ethers. This is not associated with the ether you may be familiar with that chemists employ in their research. The name is the same but is used in a different field of study and hence has an entirely different meaning. How is it their are five types? They are produced by splitting breath by matter. This matter is called Prakariti. When breath blows upon Prakariti a series of different vibratory modes are established. This can be envisioned as the action of light being slowed down by a geometrical prism. Different colors of light can be observed. Albeit the conditions to observe this are difficult to observe unless proper designs must be incorporated. Therefore Prakariti allows the breath to be diffracted, (here the meaning is slow down) into different vibrations as an analogy. Each of these ethers slow at different rates of vibration when encountering Prakariti. This shows that what we call Earth, Air, Fire, and Water are not a mere statement. They relate to our being. These elements are involved in thought and are used in the creation of life and the cosmos. You need to know this as you interact with them on a day and night basis. In addition to presenting different vibratory modes these elements, also called Tattvas, also are imbued with different functions. Thus the interaction of Prakariti also results in the creation of function. The various names of these elements are tabulated for the reader’s convenience. Tattva Ether Sense 1 Akasha Sonoriferous Sound 2 Vayu Tangiferous Touch 3 Tejas Luminiferous Color 4 Apas Gustiferous Taste 5 Prithivi Odoriferous Smell Direction of Motion of the Ethers The motion of Akasha is radial in the plane of the page The motion of Vayu is acute angles to the plane of the page Apas ether is in the shape of a half moon. The direction is vertical motion in the downward direction of the page. Prithivi contains four angles. This ether moves in the transverse direction of a wave. In this case the wave is in the same plane as the page. These ethers are not known to be pure components. This means that the Vayu is not composed of 100% Vayu. There is a mixing process involving all of the ethers. this mixing process is called Panchikarana. The composition of each ether can be represented by the formulae involving 1/2 of the major ether component +1/8 of the 4 remaining ether components. Formulas can be constructed for each of these ethers. Akasha = Akasha/2 + Vayu/8 + Tejas/8 + Apas/8 + Prithivi/8 Vayu = Vayu/2 + Akasha/8 + Tejas/8 + Apas/8 + Prithivi/8 Tejas = Tejas/2 + Akasha/8 + Vayu/8 + Apas/8 + Prithivi/8 Apas = Apas/2 + Akasha/8 + Vayu/8 + Tejas/8 + Prithivi/8 Prithivi = Prithivi/2 + Akasha/8 + Vayu/8 + Tejas/8 + Apas/8
